Waste Management: Collection, Transport & Treatment

by Archynetys Health Desk

On June 18, the central subsidiary of Hanoi Urban Environment Company Limited (Urenco 15) mobilized workers and more than ten vehicles to collect waste and clean the collection points of the Chieu link district in order to manage the delay accumulated in the collection of household waste. At the same time, the collection of household waste on the roads and in the residential areas has been reinforced: 34 compactor trucks collected and transported 213.44 tonnes of household waste to the Khanh Son solid waste treatment complex, or 43.44 tonnes more than the average daily volume (170 tonnes/day). Previously, from June 1 to 15, Urenco 15 had collected and transported more than 2,760 tonnes of waste to the Khanh Son solid waste treatment complex, an average of more than 184 tonnes/day, or 14 tonnes more than the previous normal day.

The director of Urenco 15, NGO Le Quang, said that the unit was investigating the cause of the recent increase in the quantity of waste produced. On June 18, thanks to the efforts made to collect suffering waste and clean the major collection points in the Chieu link district, the quantity of waste collected and transported to the Khanh Son solid waste treatment complex increased by more than 25.5 % compared to the average daily rate. As of June 19, the unit set up a waste compactor and an additional service vehicle to proactively collect and transport the waste produced in the district.

The quantity of daily household waste locally increases in certain collection points of other localities, and units mobilize workers and mechanical vehicles to collect them. For example, on June 17, faced with the situation of the inhabitants, restaurants and businesses that picked up waste late at night rue Chineh Huu (district of its tra), the Urban Environment Society of Da Nang mobilized small garbage compactors to collect the waste contained in the trash cans and transport it quickly to the waste transfer station in the area of its TRA. The company has mobilized more workers and large capacity mechanical vehicles equipped with chutes to collect waste outside the trash cans and transport it directly to the Khanh Son solid waste treatment complex. The waste transfer station in the TRA area was notably put into service in January 2023 with a nominal capacity for compacting waste 200 tonnes per day, but it was recently frequently overloaded. During the first half of June 2025, the quantity of waste transported to the station exceeded 200 tonnes per day for ten days, some days when the station operated at more than 20 % of its capacity, and other days when it received up to 250 tonnes of waste (overloaded by 25 %). In this context, the Urban Environment Society of Da Nang mobilized additional large capacity vehicles to collect waste in the district of its TRA and transport it directly to the Khanh Son solid waste treatment complex, or coordinated the delivery of many small waste compactors to the waste transfer station on rue Le Thanh Nghi.

French also during the aforementioned period, the waste transfer station on rue Le Thanh Nghi also received approximately 7 days of waste exceeding the nominal waste compression capacity of 485 tonnes/day. In addition, during the first half of June 2025, the quantity of waste collected by motorized vehicles of the company in the Hai Chau district and transported directly to the Khanh Son solid waste treatment complex (and not to the waste transfer station on rue Le Thanh Nghi) amounted to around 26.5 tonnes/day. Mr. Dang that Hung, representative of the joint venture of Seen Engineering Joint Stock Company and Saigon Transport Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO), said that after a period of operation, the two stations for the transfer of waste in the district of its TRA and rue Le Thanh Nghi were often overloaded due to the increase in the quantity of household waste generated by socio -Economic development. Currently, the two companies actively accelerate the construction and installation of equipment for the CAM waste transfer station project in order to reduce the workload of the waste transfer station on rue Le Thanh Nghi and to promote the mechanization of the collection of household waste in the surroundings. To meet the waste collection and transport needs, the City must soon invest in the installation of an additional waste compactor, two arm trucks and waste containers in order to increase the capacity of the waste transfer station of its TRA. In addition, it is necessary to invest soon in a waste transfer station on the street Duc Tung and in the Ngu Hanh Son district in order to meet the needs for collecting and transporting the growing volume of waste linked to socio-economic development.
