Warframe Steam Records: 12-Year High Achieved

Summary

  • Warframe hit 175,546 concurrent Steam players after The Old Peace update.

  • A Game Awards trailer plus The Old Peace expansion drove a big player surge.

  • It nearly beat Warframe’s record; the peak was ~190k players in July 2021.

Have you given Warframe a try? I actually gave it a go for the first time earlier this year, despite it being around for 12 years now. It’s a ton of fun, and it’s one of those games that just get better the more you play it. By the time I hit the Warframe: 1999 expansion, I was pretty much sold on always being a player.

You might assume that, because Warframe is over a decade old now, its playerbase is thin and its development team is a skeleton crew. However, the truth is, the game is still seeing a ton of players and a lot of love from its developers, to the point where Warframe very almost smashed its concurrent player count on Steam after the release of its huge update, The Old Peace.

Warframe reaches 175,546 concurrent players on Steam

As spotted by GamesRadarWarframe is in a very good position right now with its player base. Its developer, Digital Extremes, performed an effective two-prong attack to get people into the game: newcomers were wowed by a trailer during The Game Awards 2025 which more focused on what Warframe is and why you should play it, while veterans began sinking their teeth into the new expansion, The Old Peacewhich released a day before.

The end result is a huge number of players playing the game on Steam, and while it’s impossible to tell how many of them are first-timers and how many are playing for the update, I’d argue that both sides really put in the work to hit the 175,546 concurrent player count we’re seeing right now on SteamDB.

It’s super impressive, but unfortunately, it’s not quite enough to take the record as the largest number of players that Warframe has ever seen in one day. That being said, it is pretty darn close; the most we’ve ever seen Warframe hit was in July 2021, when it hit just shy of 190k players, presumably during TennoCon.

The cool thing about giving Warframe a try is that it’s free and can run on a potato. As such, if you want to give it a go, now’s the perfect time. It’s definitely a title that improves as you play, but I wouldn’t say the early game is particularly bad; it’s just the later stuff is really good.
