Aleksandar Boricić has died. He was an icon of European volleyball
On Wednesday, March 4, we received sad news from Serbia. Boricić died at the age of 78, and the cause of death was complications from a stroke he suffered a few weeks earlier.
– I will not list my successes, titles, hobbies and achievements. It’s the sea. The man from whom I learned the most about sports diplomacy and sports process management. The most deserving of the successes of the golden generation in our volleyball (…) remained loyal to himself, to his family and to what he loved. Man first. Now with my teammates and friends. Let the earth be your father and the only true president.
Thank you for everything, all the advice and suggestions. Some of the gaps you leave behind will never be filled. No matter how hard I tried. My deepest condolences to the family. Seki, Alexander, Ivan and grandchildren. Red Star has lost one great star, and the sport is not even aware of the value this man brought – wrote Vladimir Grbic, quoted by the “Strefa Siatkówki” portal.
The key change made by the FIVB during Boricić’s term was the expansion of the World Championship to 32 teams, as well as setting the date for the tournament to be held every two years. The qualification process for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which will take place in 2028, has also been improved.
