Electric cars are no longer just narrow-profile models for city traffic. They can easily fulfill the role of a family car. However, in order for customers to prefer them over traditional combustion alternatives, they must match them in terms of usability and price. Volkswagen came close to this thanks to the extended Pure Limited equipment.

The Volkswagen concern had big plans for electromobility and wanted to become the largest manufacturer of electric cars in the world. Due to technical complications and management failures, however, he failed to fulfill this goal, and several of his brands are currently rationalizing their long-term plans. However, Volkswagen itself offers several electric cars that can compete with combustion vehicles in certain aspects, and this is also the case with the tested model.
Family neutral
The Volkswagen ID.4 is a compact crossover whose design tries to blend in with the crowd and not stand out in any way. The body shapes are rounded for good aerodynamics and at the same time in the rear they provide enough space for passengers in the second row and a spacious trunk. The wheelbase is 2,771 mm long, which, with a total length of 4,584 mm, is an above-average dimension that can be achieved in electric cars thanks to their more compact components.

When viewed from the side, the rear darkened pillar and wings connected to the roof spoiler give the car a slightly dynamic touch. The black plastic protection of the thresholds optically reduces the size of the door, which lends the car balanced proportions.
Inside, a concern classic
It is no secret that the unification of the interior design is not only within the Wolfburg brand, but also across the concern. This also applies to the ID.4, which is strikingly similar to the Enyaq and Elroq models from Mladá Boleslav. But that is not a complaint, because in terms of materials and processing, there is nothing to criticize them for. In this case, the intention of the designers was minimalism and the creation of a homely atmosphere.
The driver has only a small instrument panel in front of him, which is firmly anchored to the steering wheel. The head-up display is not part of the Pure Limited equipment. The heated steering wheel has controls on smooth surfaces, but at least they can be pressed and have a physical response, improving usability and preventing accidental contact. The center of the interior is a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. It responds quickly and has excellent graphics. It also includes built-in navigation.

The seats are comfortable, but they don’t provide too much support for the body in turns, which only becomes apparent during dynamic driving, and that is what few people expect from a family-oriented car. They are upholstered in ArtVelours microfleece material and the front seats are heated. Since the gear selector, or rather the direction of travel, is located under the steering wheel, the center console is adapted to store smaller and larger things in different configurations, and two-thirds can be covered with a roller blind. In the back, passengers have enough space in all directions.

The luggage compartment has a volume of 543 liters and, after folding the backrests, up to 1,575 liters. It has a regular shape, which increases its usability. There was only a place under the floor for a small cable storage box. There is no storage space under the front hood. The variability of transport options is also increased by the opening in the middle rear seat for transporting long objects.
