The Experiment: A Teachable moment or a Recipe for Disaster?

Four high school teachers in the Czech Republic are embarking on a daring experiment: maintaining a blood alcohol level of 0.5 per mille to see if it enhances their creativity and problem-solving abilities. This premise forms the core of a new Czech film set to premiere in cinemas on August 7th. The film delves into whether a slight intoxication can genuinely unlock hidden potential or if it leads down a more precarious path.

From Danish drama to Moravian Merriment: A Female-Led Adaptation

The upcoming film is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed Danish film another Round (Danish title: Druk),which won the Oscar for Best International feature Film in 2020. However, this Czech adaptation introduces notable changes, most notably replacing the original male protagonists with four female leads. The setting has also been localized to Mikulov, a town in Moravia, adding a unique Czech flavor to the narrative.

The film stars Hana Vagnerová,Judit Pecháček,Zuzana Bydžovská,and Alžbeta Zea Ferencová,promising a fresh perspective on the story’s themes.

Director’s Vision: A Female Perspective on Intoxication and Inspiration

Director Rudolf Biermann emphasized the importance of casting women in the lead roles. When I had the opportunity to get rights to remake the film Booze, I instantly knew that it was vital for women to play in the film. I think the result speaks for itself, and I hope this version of the story, full of female charm and Czech-Slovak teasing, will entertain everyone, Biermann stated. The screenplay is the work of Roman Olekšák, with Petr Kolečko serving as the dramaturge.

The Potential Pitfalls: Responsible Consumption vs. Risky Behavior

While the film explores the potential benefits of low-level intoxication, it’s crucial to remember the dangers of alcohol abuse. According to the World Health Association, alcohol contributes to 3 million deaths each year globally, as well as to the disabilities and poor health of millions more. The film raises questions about the line between experimentation and addiction, and the potential consequences of normalizing even slight intoxication.

Anticipated Release: Czech Cinemas Await

Audiences can anticipate the film’s release in Czech cinemas starting August 7, 2025.The film promises to be a thought-provoking and entertaining exploration of human behavior, creativity, and the complex relationship between alcohol and inspiration.
