Former MEP Vlad Gheorghe will announce on Tuesday, December 2 that he is withdrawing from the race for Bucharest in which he entered as an independent candidate, G4Media sources state.
He will announce his support for the PNL candidate, Ciprian Ciucu, say G4Media sources.
His candidacy in these elections was circulated from the moment he appeared alongside Nicușor Dan, both in the electoral campaign and after he won the first position in the state.
Gheorghe is an old close friend of President Nicușor Dan, he was in the USR volunteer team in the past, as well as in the current president’s team during the presidential elections.
Vlad Gheorghe is 40 years old, with a bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Law, Romanian-American University, Bucharest (2004-2008) and a master’s degree in Tax Law, at the University of Bucharest (2016-2017, without dissertation).
He entered politics in 2015, when he was a volunteer of the Save Bucharest Union (USB).
He reached the European Parliament on the USR PLUS lists, in the 2020-2024 mandate, in the seat left vacant by Clotilde Armand, who returned to Bucharest after winning the Mayor of Sector 1. He resigned from the USR at the beginning of 2024 following an internal scandal.

In 2024, he ran for a new mandate as a member of the European Parliament, as an independent, but did not collect the necessary votes.
A Flashdata survey published on November 21 showed a tight score among the first candidates for the Capital City Hall, writes Digi24.
Ciprian Ciucu is in first place in terms of voting intention, with 21.5% of the votes, followed by Daniel Băluță, with 20.5%.
The USR candidate, Cătălin Drula, was in third place, a short distance away, with 19%, followed by Anca Alexandrescu, supported by AUR, with 18.5%.
On November 20, the INSCOP institute published a survey that placed Daniel Băluță in first place, with 26.6%, followed by Ciprian Ciucu (24.2%), Anca Alexandrescu (19.1%) and Cătălin Drula (11.6%).
