We all know the quality, work and successes of Carolina Marínbut few stop to think about everything behind it. Fernando Rivasone of the coaches who has been close to Caro since the beginning of her career, revealed on her social networks the way in which the Huelva native prepared before jumping onto the court: virtual matches that her coaches “set up” after dozens of hours of scouting.
“Carolina Marín played before competing as an integral part of the preparation for the match. One of the parts of a carefully designed protocol to prepare for the match hours before playing it. Each step leads to the next and ‘playing before playing’ prepares the system – body and mind – to cognitively activate the game plan. It’s like driving a car with or without GPS. Behind these clips there are 3 people clicking for many hours (Fernando, Rafa Vázquez and Anders Thomsen) to select events, create statistics, filter clips and organize them in proportion, they are not random clips. The good thing about these processes is that they are living processes and that this led us to discover new methods to improve the virtual match and create game realities.. Most of this procedure can be done today in a matter of minutes,” Fernando wrote.
Both he and his team consumed hours of Carolina’s rivals’ games to select clips with different game situations that they meticulously selected to create a sequence with which the player trained to perfect her technique and blend in with the game she was about to play.
