Next show by Espaces Culturels Villefranchois / ATP, “Non-reducable woman” with La Chouette Compagnie and Matrioshka Compagnie, Saturday March 14, 2026 at 8:45 p.m. at the Théâtre des Bastides.
The non-reducable woman (this is how the Russian government designated opponents) is Anna Politkovskaya, born in New York, Russian-American journalist, war reporter, committed to human rights, murdered on October 7, 2006 in the stairwell of her apartment in Moscow.
The proposed play was written by one of the greatest current Italian playwrights: Stefano Massini, based on six years of notes, articles, revelations of this courageous woman, played by Caroline Rochefort, nominated to the Molières as a female revelation for her interpretation in “Changer l’eau des fleurs”, a great success at the Avignon Festival. Opposite her, on stage, is Pierre Berçot, who plays several characters: the interviewees but also the narrator. The director did not want to just do a historical reconstruction of the events, so she placed Anna in the middle of the stage as a sort of pillar, a symbol of her determination to want to make the truth known (especially about the war in Chechnya), which is the definition of journalism. Screenings of titles will help spectators to follow the events recounted more easily. A very committed piece therefore, but also very human around a woman who has become a symbol of press freedom (press freedom week is very close) and of democracy.
The session dedicated to schools will be preceded by mediations.
La Chouette Compagnie is supported by the FIDH (International Federation of Human Rights), the House of Journalists and Russia-Liberté. Mediations will take place in several college classes as part of the Performing Arts at college system, in partnership with the Department of Aveyron.
