Amidst swirling transfer rumors, viktor gyökeres has spoken out about his future, stating he will address the speculation “when the time is right.” This comes as reports of a potential rift between him and his current club, Sporting CP, continue to circulate.

The Sweden international has garnered significant attention from clubs across Europe following an notable spell with Sporting CP, were he has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances as joining from Coventry City in July 2023.

Gyökeres is under contract with Sporting until June 2028 and has a release clause of €100m ($115.5m). Though, it is indeed widely anticipated that he will depart the club this summer, with Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly among the frontrunners for his signature.

Addressing the ongoing speculation,Gyökeres,27,wrote on Instagram: “There is a lot of talk at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.”

Sporting CP President Frederico Varandas insisted this week that his club had not received any offers for Gyökeres but would consider bids of at least €80m ($92m).

“There is a lot of talk at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.”

He added: “We knew Viktor’s dream was to go to a club where he could fight for the Champions League, and we have common sense. We guaranteed that we would not demand the €100m.”

Reports suggest that Gyökeres is unhappy with Sporting CP, believing they have reneged on an agreement to allow him to move for €60m plus €10m in add-ons – substantially less then his €100m release clause.

Varandas, however, claims that Gyökeres’ agent is employing underhanded tactics to pressure the club into selling the player. “Varandas said, “The game his agent is playing is only making the situation worse.”

“Threats, blackmail, and insults don’t work with me,” he added.

Gyökeres enjoyed a stellar 2024-25 season, scoring 39 goals in 33 league games as Sporting pipped rivals Benfica to the First league title on the final day.

Sporting also defeated Benfica to lift the Portuguese cup. The Swede ended the season with 54 goals in all competitions, including a hat trick against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Furthermore, gyökeres finished as the Nations League top scorer with nine goals, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo by one goal.
