Vietnam’s Women’s Football Team Maintains Top Spot in Southeast Asia

The team continues to dominate Southeast Asia in the FIFA rankings and prepares for upcoming AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.


The national women’s football team from Vietnam has secured its position in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola world rankings for June, holding 37th place worldwide, sixth in Asia, and maintaining its lead in southeast Asia.

Despite strong regional competition, Vietnam remains behind continental powerhouses such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, China, and the People’s Democratic republic of Korea.

More importantly, the team is ahead of Southeast asian rivals including Thailand, the Philippines, and Myanmar, a promising sign as they approach the AFC 2026 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

Currently in Osaka, Japan for a training internship, the team is finalizing preparations for the qualification tournament, which begins on June 29 in Phu tho (North). During their internship, Vietnam demonstrated strong form with consecutive amiable victories, including a 3-2 win against Iga Kunoichi Mie on June 11 and a 3-1 victory against Tezukaya Gakuin University.

The national women’s football team in Vietnam will play another readiness match against the University of Osaka Health and Sports on June 15.

Global Standings and south American Surge

Vietnam remains just behind the continental powers of Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, China and the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea.

South American teams are gaining prominence, while the United States remains at the top of the rankings. Though, the gaps are closing, with Spain (2nd) and Germany (3rd) approaching the americans, who experienced a 1-2 defeat at home in April against Brazil (4th).

Brazil’s rise to fourth place marks their highest ranking since December 2013. England (5th) completes the top 5, followed by Sweden (6th). Japan (7th) and Canada (8th) have dropped in the rankings after losses to Brazil and Argentina, respectively. The RDP of Korea (9th) remains in the top 10, while France (10th) has moved back in, replacing the Netherlands (11th).

Colombia (18th) has also made significant progress, defeating the Republic of Korea (0-1) and entering the top 20 for the frist time. Paraguay (45th) and Venezuela (48th) have achieved their best-ever rankings, with Venezuela notably defeating New Zealand (1-3). Haiti (50th) and Porto Rico (79th) have also reached record high rankings.

Notable Progressions

Saudi Arabia (165th) has reached its best ranking, while Egypt (93rd), F.111th, and Bangladesh (128th) have made significant progress in terms of places.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola women’s world ranking will be published on August 6.
