The National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE) is a public research establishment bringing together a working community of 12,000 people, with 272 units research, service and experimental, implanted In 18 centres on all France. INRAE is positioned among the very first world leaders in agricultural and food sciences, in plant and animal sciences. Its research aims to build solutions for multi-efficient agriculture, quality food and sustainable management of resources and ecosystems.
Working environment, missions and activities
You will carry out your activity within the INRAE-VetAgro Sup EPIA Joint Research Unit, recognized for its work in the epidemiology of animal and zoonotic diseases, combining field studies and modeling in a One Health approach. You will work under the supervision of Guillaume Fournié and will be based on the VetAgro Sup campus, in Marcy l’Etoile, near Lyon.
Your mission will consist of conducting research in veterinary epidemiology, in particular on the transmission dynamics of avian influenza viruses as part of the ZOLA project (Zoonotic risk mitigation in live animal markets: towards structural interventions), funded by the PEPR PREZODE. The position will combine field activities in South and Southeast Asia and statistical analyzes of epidemiological data, in close collaboration with the project’s international partners.
You will be more specifically in charge of:
- design and implement observational studies in live poultry markets, including biological poultry sampling and questionnaire data collection from traders in Bangladesh, Viet Nam and Cambodia;
- analyze and interpret the epidemiological data produced in order to characterize the transmission dynamics of avian influenza viruses by using appropriate statistical approaches;
- contribute, based on your scientific interests, your expertise and the needs of the unit, to other research projects relating to the transmission of avian influenza viruses, antibiotic resistance and the role of contact networks between animal populations in the spread of pathogens.
These activities will require close collaboration with our collaborators in France (CIRAD, IRD), Bangladesh (Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Science University, Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute), Viet Nam (National Institute of Veterinary Research, Vietnam National University of Agriculture) and Cambodia (Institut Pasteur) and will include on-site missions.e.
