JOHNSON – The Vermont Studio Center (VSC) is set to host “EXPERIENCE VSC,” a series of free community events held every third Sunday of the month from June through October. These events offer a behind-the-scenes look at the studios of nearly 50 resident artists and writers. Visitors can meet the artists, writers, and VSC staff, and explore the campus along the Gihon River. Each event will feature campus tours, activities, refreshments, and special guests, celebrating the VSC’s community and its contribution to Vermont’s cultural scene.

The first event is scheduled for Sunday,June 15,from 2 to 4 p.m. It will celebrate the VSC’s historic buildings and new interpretive signage. Attendees will also recognize Cushman Design Group for their dedication to campus planning, which has guided the restoration and expansion of the VSC’s facilities.

The VSC campus includes 16 buildings in the Village of johnson, with 75 percent holding historic significance. Over its 41-year history, the residency program has repurposed municipal, commercial buildings, and homes into artist studios, lodging, and other facilities. The June event will highlight this history with the unveiling of new history signs throughout the campus, a project in collaboration with the Johnson Past Society and Vermont’s Division for Historic Preservation.

Cushman Design Group has played a central role in the stewardship of these historic structures as 2013, providing expertise and planning for the campus’s reimagining and the restoration of its buildings. VSC Executive Director, Hope Sullivan, stated, “Milford Cushman and everyone at Cushman Design Group have been invaluable partners to Vermont Studio Center. Together with his team and our dedicated staff, he has helped VSC look to the future – ensuring our campus can grow, adapt, and evolve while honoring the historical integrity of each building.” She added, “We look forward to celebrating this remarkable team, whose vision and expertise have shaped our long-term strategy and strengthened VSC’s resilience for years to come.”

Visitors to “EXPERIENCE VSC” can explore the studios independently from 2 to 4 p.m.or join guided campus tours at 2:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. to learn about the historic buildings and see the new interpretive signs installed by Dave Couch Signs in stowe.
