Youth Football Tournament Fosters spiritual Growth Alongside Athletic Achievement

A Unique Blend of sport and Spirituality

In a heartwarming initiative that blends athletic competition wiht spiritual enrichment, young athletes from across the sverdlovsk region recently participated in the X annual charitable football tournament. This year’s event, held on March 29, 2025, offered more than just the thrill of victory; it provided a unique opportunity for personal and spiritual growth for orphans and children without parental care.

Metropolitan Cup Champions Embark on Pilgrimage

The winning teams of the Metropolitan Cup, representing both younger (10-12 years old) and older (13-15 years old) age groups, were rewarded with a pilgrimage too Verkhoturye and Merkushino, spiritual centers of the Ural region.This pilgrimage offered a chance to explore sacred sites and deepen their understanding of faith.

The young pilgrims visited:

  • The village of Merkushino, paying respects at the Holy Simonian Temple.
  • The St. Nicholas Monastery in Aktai.
  • The St. Nicholas and Women’s Pokrovsky Monasteries in Verkhoturye.

Teams securing second place were granted a visit to the Monastery of the Holy Royal Martyrs in Ganin Yama.

Tournament Highlights and Team Standings

The tournament, a meaningful event in the region, drew over 450 young athletes to the Ural Manege in yekaterinburg. A total of 24 football teams, representing 18 institutions dedicated to the care of orphans and children without parental care, competed fiercely for the coveted title.

Younger Age Group (10-12 years old)

  1. Champion: Berezovsky Children’s Institution
  2. Second Place: Kamensk-Uralsky (Sinarsky Village)
  3. Third Place: Nizhny Sergi

Older Age Group (13-15 years old)

  1. Champion: Caravel center for Social Assistance (Yekaterinburg)
  2. Second Place: Berezovsky
  3. Third Place: Golden Autumn Integrated Social Services Center

Sport today is the basis of the health and sovereignty of the nation,and the children of orphans and children left without parental care need special attention and support,especially spiritual,therefore,in addition to ordinary awards – medals,letters and cups,and pilgrimage trips have been organized.
