Environmental group releases green dye to show impact of climate breakdown
The color of a canal in Venice, a famous tourist city in Italy, suddenly turns green, drawing attention as to why.
According to AFP on the 22nd (local time), environmental group Extinction Rebellion announced that it had released green dye into the waterway of Venice’s Grand Canal to show the enormous impact of climate collapse.
The group emphasized that “dye was poured into canals, rivers, lakes, and fountains in 10 Italian cities, including the Grand Canal of Venice,” and that “it is not harmful to the environment.”
Climate groups have in the past staged performances to raise awareness of the dangers of climate change by spraying paint around the Grand Canal of Venice, a tourist attraction in Italy.
In particular, Extinction Rebellion activist Paola argued, “The most important global summit to address climate and social collapse is coming to an end. This year, Italy was also one of the countries blocking ambitious proposals.”
Meanwhile, the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change are said to be negotiating whether to stipulate the phase-out of fossil fuels by postponing the closing schedule of the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to be held in Belém, Brazil.
