According to the Guardian, these six countries said in a joint statement that day, “We express deep concern and rejection of the military action carried out unilaterally on the territory of Venezuela,” and criticized, “This is an act that violates the fundamental principles of international law, especially the principles set forth in the UN Charter, such as prohibiting the use of force and threats of force and respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
“These actions set an extremely dangerous precedent for peace and regional security, and put civilians at risk,” he said.
They also said, “The situation in Venezuela must be resolved only through dialogue and negotiation in accordance with international law, without external intervention, and through peaceful means in which the will of the Venezuelan people is fully respected,” and “Only an inclusive political process led by the Venezuelan people can lead to a democratic and sustainable solution that respects human dignity.”
They also reaffirmed that Latin America and the Caribbean are “a zone of peace based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful resolution of disputes, and non-interference,” and appealed that “regional unity beyond political positions is necessary to combat any actions that threaten regional stability.”
At the same time, he urged the UN Secretary-General and member states of relevant multilateral organizations to make diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and maintain regional peace.
They repeatedly expressed concerns, saying, “Any attempt to externally control, manage, or appropriate natural or strategic resources is inconsistent with international law and threatens regional political, economic, and social stability.”
