Van Wonderen: Why This Idea Must End

by Archynetys Sports Desk

Kees van Wonderen is currently in discussions with Feyenoord to become the new technical director at De Kuip. Although a final agreement was expected last week, the white smoke has not yet materialized. The possible appointment of the former player of the Rotterdam team is causing the necessary discussion.

The search for a technical director at Feyenoord has been going on for some time to relieve the current dual role of Dennis te Kloese. However, according to journalist Hugo Borst, there are internal frictions that stand in the way of successful collaboration. Van Wonderen is said to have now had discussions with the general manager, with head coach Robin van Persie also joining at a later stage to discuss the plans.

”I understand that Kees van Wonderen is in the picture to become technical director at Feyenoord. Incomprehensible. A job in which the former player would make his debut. Van Wonderen appears to have already had conversations with Dennis te Kloese, the man who wears two hats. Van Persie later joined that conversation. What is now leaking: Te Kloese does not actually want to let go of his transfer portfolio completely and Van Persie does not want a future TD near his players. While Van Wonderen’s vision is to be on top of the selection.”

The columnist fears that the different visions within the club management will lead to an unworkable situation for the intended technical man. In his view, the tension between Te Kloese’s transfer wishes, Van Persie’s working method and Van Wonderen’s controlling ambitions poses a major risk to stability within the organization.

“In summary: Van Wonderen as a new TD in combination with Te Kloese and Van Persie is doomed to failure,” is Borst’s conclusion in the Algemeen Dagblad. ”Hopefully Van Wonderen, who seems to me to be an autonomous man with an independent mind, will pull the plug on this terribly bad idea himself. Don’t even start, Kees!”
