Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid are in the dispute for one more edition of their city’s Derby, but this time in the fight to earn a ticket to the grand final of the Spanish Super Cup, the same one in which Futbol Club Barcelona is already waiting for them after defeating Athletic Club. This match takes place at the Alinma Bank Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The merengue team took the lead from the start of the match and that paid off very soon since in the first break they managed to get a free kick on the edge of the red-and-white area, where Federico Valverde appeared, who asked for the ball to take said free kick, this before even reaching the minute of the match.

There, Jan Oblak asked three of his teammates to stand on the barrier, but this was not an impediment for the Uruguayan player to score and he took a powerful shot that went through the middle of the barrier and which the Colchonero goalkeeper could not stop.

This goal, which was officially scored 76 seconds into the Madrid Derby, is the fastest goal in the entire history of the Spanish Super Cup, surpassing the one scored by Mario Mandžukić also in an Atlético match against Real Madrid, but in the 2014 edition. At that time the Croatian scored the ball for his team 81 seconds after the opening whistle was given.

Furthermore, this is Valverde’s first goal with the Merengue shirt after having scored twice in the FIFA Club World Cup, his last goal being the one he scored against RB Salzburg on June 26, 2025.
