Valparaiso’s Swimming Teams Shine at Butler Invitational: Men Third, Women Fourth

Over the weekend, the Valparaiso men’s and women’s swimming teams demonstrated their skills and determination at the Butler Invitational in Fishers, Indiana. The competition was intense, but the Beacons emerged with strong individual performances and a team spirit that placed them in third and fourth positions respectively.

Men’s Team: Strength and Speed Showcased

On the men’s side, Jackson Oostman and Carson Parker stood out with their athletic prowess. Oostman earned third place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.39, posting his top finish of the day. In addition, he showed impressive team-best times in the 100 backstroke (53.24) and 200 individual medley (1:58.14), placing fifth and sixth respectively. Parker also contributed to the team’s success, securing third place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.52. He solidified his position as a key contributor by finishing fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:12.12.

Nate Bolinger, another standout performer, placed fourth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.59. His strong finish added to the team’s overall success, demonstrating the depth of Valparaiso’s squad.

Women’s Team: Grace and Leadership on Display

The women’s team showcased exceptional skill and leadership, with Sara Strauss leading the way. Strauss placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.61, an impressive individual accomplishment for the team. Kailyn Benoit also excelled across multiple events, earning fifth place in the 200 fly (2:12.57), seventh in the 200 back (2:03.77), and top honors in the 100 fly (1:00.60). Her contributions were crucial to the team’s overall performance.

Adding to the team’s prowess, Faith Bargwell posted the highest times in the 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley, reinforcing her position as a key player on the Valparaiso women’s swimming team.

Team Finishes Reflect Individual Effort

The Valparaiso swimming teams’ hard work paid off, as the men’s squad finished third out of four teams with 985 points, while the women’s team placed fourth out of five teams with 684 points. These results highlight the excellent teamwork and individual achievements of both teams.

Looking Forward: The Journey Continues

Valparaiso’s swimming teams will face their next challenge on Friday, January 31st when they host the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) at the Valparaiso Aquatic Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. This matchup will be a crucial opportunity for the Beacons to refine their skills and prepare for their upcoming conference championship meets.
