by Archynetys Health Desk

Earlier this week, the 112 Emergency Coordination Center received a notice informing them of an out-of-hospital birth at a home in the Poblats Marítims district, in Valencia. Based on that alert, several police patrols went to the scene where they treated the mother and baby.

At the home where they went, the young Olivia Mínguez had gone into labor and she had brought her son into the world, a child about whom she had no news, because the woman in labor claims that She was never aware of being pregnant.

On the day of the case, feeling that he was having discomfort, he got out of bed and went down to the living room. There labor began before health services could arrive. “I felt very bad, in pain. I told my partner and my father to take me to the emergency room but there was no time. While I waited for them downstairs, my son was born,” says Olivia, who He admits that it was a surprise “on all sides.”

His partner and father of the little one, Aitor Chaves, explains that he was sleeping and remembers that it was a surprise to hear the newborn’s cries. “I was totally shocked because, of course, I wasn’t expecting anything. It was a beautiful moment, but at first you stay a little like that, paralyzed. Afterwards, the truth is that we are very happy and very pleased that he is here.”

Given the surprise and disbelief that this news has generated, the mother assures that “I didn’t even know that I was pregnant. A few hours before I was working here at the restaurant next door,” remember. “I noticed some discomfort in my stomach, but I thought the typical thing, that you eat something that makes you feel bad, but that’s it,” he explains.

Given the fact that she did not realize during the nine months that she was pregnant, Olivia claims that she had not noticed any clear signs, beyond a slight swelling. “I was nine months old and I felt swollen and stuff, but I didn’t have a belly, a belly to say ‘you’re nine months old,'” he says.

Her case is defined by specialists as a cryptic or silent pregnancy, a fact that occurs when a pregnant person is unaware of their pregnancy status until very advanced stages or even until the birth itself.

Quick intervention

Regarding the actions of the emergency services, the parents of the newborn have shown their satisfaction with how they managed everything. “My father called and they were here in a minute. They helped me with everything,” says Oliva. Regarding skin-to-skin contact with the newborn, the mother states that “she had lost a lot of blood and was a little out of sorts” when it occurred. “I saw many patrol cars, two ambulances, they took me to the hospital, they treated me and they brought me the little one.”
