Health Risks Persist Amidst Rising Temperatures
The Aemet predicts maximum temperatures could approach or even exceed 40 degrees Celsius later this week.
The Aemet forecasts indicate that the average temperature in recent days is approaching 30 degrees Celsius in the Comunitat Valenciana,which is almost seven or eight degrees above the average between 1991 and 2020.
The persistence of the heat also has effects on the health of the citizens of Valencia. Emergencies and the conselleria de Sanidad urge people to “take precautions and avoid putting themselves in danger” due to the extreme temperatures. The main risks are heatstroke and dehydration. In Córdoba, a man died on Saturday after a heatstroke, and according to the mortality monitoring system (MoMo) of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, this month has already seen a balance of 75 deaths throughout the country due to high temperatures; it would be the third June with the highest mortality. The total figure could increase in the coming days due to a week of extreme heat with values around 40 degrees in several parts of the Valencian community.
