A fire broke out on the USS New Orleans, a navy warship of the United States of America, off the coast of Okinawa, Japan. the incident, which lasted for 12 hours, resulted in injuries to two American sailors.

The US Navy’s 7th Fleet reported that the fire on the USS New Orleans, an amphibious transportation dock capable of carrying over 800 troops and manned by a crew of more than 360, started around 16:00 local time on Wednesday. The fire was successfully extinguished by Thursday morning.

The Japanese coast guard, which assisted in the firefighting efforts, indicated that the fire was extinguished after 09:00 local time. An examination is underway to confirm that the fire has been completely put out.

“Two sailors suffered minor injuries and where treated at medical facilities on ships.”

According to the US Navy, the injured sailors received treatment at onboard medical facilities.

At the time the fire started, the ship was anchored at the White Beach Navy facility, located on the east coast of japan Island. This facility serves as a staging area for US marines and their equipment before deployment onto amphibious ships like the USS New Orleans, which measures 200 meters in length and weighs 24,000 tons.
