Amidst ongoing global trade friction,particularly the trade war between the US and China,the United States is actively pursuing a strengthened strategic partnership with India. US Vice President JD Vance articulated the US government’s commitment to this alliance during a recent visit to India, emphasizing increased cooperation in critical sectors such as energy and defense.

The US views India as a crucial partner in rebalancing global trade, especially given the current tariff landscape. Vance suggested that India’s proactive tariff policies, in conjunction with US actions, could yield important economic advantages for the Indian populace.

Defense and Energy: Pillars of the Proposed partnership

A key aspect of the proposed partnership involves bolstering India’s defense capabilities through increased procurement of US military equipment. Vance specifically mentioned the F-35 fighter jet, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, as a potential acquisition. he also highlighted the existing routine joint military exercises between the two nations as a foundation for deeper collaboration.
