US Supreme Court Tariff Ruling: China’s Response

by Archynetys World Desk

China News Service, Beijing, February 23 (Reporter Yin Qianyun) In response to the announcement of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on the tariff lawsuit, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on the 23rd that China urges the United States to cancel relevant unilateral tariff measures imposed on trading partners.

On February 20, Eastern Time, the U.S. Supreme Court announced the results of the tariff lawsuit, ruling that the U.S. government’s reciprocal tariffs, fentanyl tariffs and other related tariffs imposed on relevant trading partners in accordance with the International Emergency Economic Powers Act were illegal.

The spokesperson said that China is conducting a comprehensive assessment of the relevant content and impact. China has always opposed all forms of unilateral tariff increases and has repeatedly emphasized that there are no winners in trade wars and that there is no way out for protectionism. The US’s reciprocal tariffs, fentanyl tariffs and other unilateral measures violate not only international economic and trade rules, but also US domestic laws and are not in the interests of all parties. Facts have repeatedly proven that China and the United States both benefit from cooperation and lose from confrontation.

The spokesperson said that China has also noticed that the United States is preparing to take alternative measures such as trade investigations in order to maintain the additional tariffs imposed on trading partners. China will keep a close eye on this and firmly safeguard China’s interests. (over)
