US-Russia Talks: Ukraine War Updates – Bloomberg

by Archynetys World Desk

US officials visited Abu Dhabi to hold talks with a Russian delegation regarding a peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. While Trump spoke of progress on the peace plan, Russia and Ukraine launched airstrikes against each other in the early hours of the 25th.

U.S. Army Secretary Driscoll met for several hours with Russian officials in Abu Dhabi on the night of the 24th, and held further discussions on the 25th, U.S. officials said. According to Russia’s Interfax news agency, Presidential Spokesperson Peskov said he had no comment to make on reports regarding the talks.

President Trump has indicated in social media posts that significant progress has been made on the Ukraine deal. The 28-point peace plan presented by the United States last week was strongly opposed by Ukraine and European donors, but such opposition appears to have been alleviated somewhat by talks between U.S. Secretary of State Rubio and Ukrainian officials in Geneva on the 23rd.

Mr. Trump had called for support for Ukraine’s peace plan by a deadline of November 27, but the United States has shown a somewhat flexible stance regarding the deadline after some progress was made in the Geneva talks. However, the United States continues to aim for an early agreement, according to a person familiar with the talks in Abu Dhabi. CBS News first reported about Secretary Driscoll’s meeting.
