The US military has again attacked a suspected drug boat. The four crew members were killed, American Defense Minister Hegseth reported. Hegseth claims that those on board were transporting drugs, but provides no evidence for this.
The defense secretary also claims the attacked boat was traveling in the eastern Pacific along a known drug route. On X, Hegseth posted a 22-second video showing the attack on the boat. He warns that the US will “continue to hunt down and eliminate drug terrorists wherever they operate.”
Since September, the US has been carrying out deadly attacks on suspected drug boats off South America. These attacks have so far claimed the lives of more than sixty people. Earlier this week, fourteen people were killed in ship bombings.
Trump
US President Trump claims that the US is involved in an armed conflict with drug cartels. He said the deadly attacks in international waters were justified to stem the flow of drugs into the United States. Trump and his ministers have so far provided no evidence that the attacked boats were actually transporting drugs.
The fact that the attacks take place in international waters has led to criticism. Critics point out that the US attacks violate both international and US law.
