Record Membership Surge at Trump Doonbeg Golf Resort
US golf enthusiasts are flocking to President Donald Trump’s Doonbeg golf resort in Ireland, breaking membership records. The phenomenon sees golfers shelling out €25,000 per person to become members, with the resort experiencing its highest-ever influx of new memberships.
High Demand for Premium Membership
Joe Russell, general manager of Trump Doonbeg, announced the unprecedented surge in new memberships for the month. “We’re seeing the highest ever number in new membership sales for this month,” Russell revealed. “The €25,000 fee seems to be a reasonable price for people looking to join a world-class golf resort.”
International Appeal and Quality Investment
The majority of new members come from overseas, with two-thirds being international and the majority from the US. This international appeal is part of a broader strategy by the Trump Organization to capitalize on premium golf experiences.
Russell emphasized the quality of the resort, attributing its success to substantial investments by the Trump Organization. “The Trumps have poured over €40 million into the resort, including the purchase price,” he said. “This extensive investment and expert management have ensured that Doonbeg golf course is one of the best conditioned in Ireland.”
US Business Leaders and Golf Fans Aligned
The surge in membership sales aligns with the trend of US business leaders embracing the Trump presidency. However, Russell clarified that there is no direct evidence linking the election to the membership surge. “While it’s great to see strong interest, we don’t have concrete evidence connecting the election to the rise in membership numbers,” he stated.
Instead, Russell highlighted the existing loyalty among US Trump golf course members. “Many of those signing up from the US were already members of other Trump golf courses,” he noted. “Our strong performance in 2024 has also contributed to this record month.”
Awards and Future Prospects
The high standards of Trump Doonbeg have also earned it accolades in the form of the Best Golf Hotel 2024 award from the World Golf Awards Ireland. “The hard work of our team has ensured that the course is exceptional,” Russell said. “We’re proud that our key components for 2025 are pacing ahead of the same time last year.”
Looking ahead, Trump Doonbeg faces a period of closure, with the resort reopening for weekends in February and March. Full operations will restart in April, continuing until the end of October. The seasonal closure allows for maintenance and preparation, ensuring the best possible experience for guests.
Christmas Buys Continue
The festive season brought in significant business, with many bookings for next Christmas made before the current one concluded. “It’s always a joy to see people planning so far ahead and returning year after year,” Russell expressed.
