ANTHONY, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — A new healthcare facility has opened its doors in Anthony, New Mexico, giving the community more access to medical services.
Representative Doreen Y. Gallegos of District 52 emphasized the importance of the new Memorial Urgent Care facility during its ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“This is part of where my heart is, it’s the heart of my district. Always looking to make sure that people, especially in the rural areas, have access to healthcare,” Gallegos said.
The new facility aims to address these issues by providing convenient and crucial healthcare access for residents, particularly during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

For Gallegos, the opening of the healthcare center is part of a broader vision for the area. “We want this whole area to grow so the community members of this town can have a betterment of life.”
Gallegos also pointed out the role of healthcare in driving economic growth, saying, “When we’re looking at communities that are thriving, we look at education, an educational component, we look at if the community is safe, and we look at if there’s access to healthcare. And now the city of Anthony can say that we have checked all those boxes and so we are open for business.”
The representative expressed gratitude to Memorial Medical Center, the county, and the city for their collaboration in making the facility a reality, concluding with congratulations to the town of Anthony.
The CEO of Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces Dennis Knox said the project had been in the making for two years, since the City of Anthony contacted them about making an urgent care facility with the purpose of keeping people from having to drive to other neighboring cities for medical attention.
