Jeonju City Upcycling Center Dasibom was found to have taken the lead in making Jeonju a leading city in a circular economy society through various projects this year.
Upcycling Center Dasibom announced on the 11th that in order to spread the resource circulation culture through upcycling of discarded waste and build a circular economy society, it has focused on operating a downtown hub space for upcycling industries and supporting and fostering upcycling tenant companies over the past year.
The main business contents include △Operation of upcycling education and experience programs △Exhibition of upcycling-themed art works △Visitation of the upcycling center with commentary △Industrial support for tenant companies.
First, in the case of the upcycling education and experience program, 16 instructors trained as professional instructors were used to provide theoretical and experiential education to visitors to the center, while on-site education services were also provided to schools and organizations seeking education.
In particular, in accordance with the resource circulation education implementation agreement between the five parties, including Jeonju City and the Jeonju Office of Education, Dasibom conducted 20 field trips for elementary school students to form positive awareness of resource circulation and upcycling and create an atmosphere in which families can practice it.
The center also holds art exhibitions eight times a year (4 permanent, 4 temporary) with the theme of upcycling. Currently, the ‘Conclusive Corner’ special exhibition, which opened on the 24th of last month, is being held, and through this exhibition, upcycling furniture and carbon works can be seen until February 20th of next year.
The Upcycling Center has also worked hard to support the upcycling industry and sales channels of resident companies. Specifically, we supported the development of sales channels so that the products of resident companies Eat It Co., Ltd. and Uksam Workshop could be selected as official goods for the ’26th Jeonju International Film Festival‘, and also provided incubation services to enable resident companies to operate independently in the future through support for promotional booths at external exhibitions.
In addition, the center also promoted solidarity and cooperation projects with organizations in the Seonosong-dong area. For example, last September, the Seonosong Art Week was held with Jeonju citizens, local residents, and artists in the unexpected area of the art museum, providing a variety of things to see and enjoy, such as holding special exhibitions and setting up promotional and sales booths for resident companies.
In addition, the upcycling store operated by the center promotes and sells a variety of upcycling products from tenant companies, and is leading the way in fostering the upcycling industry by leading the development of sales channels for companies by linking not only ready-made products but also customized production requests.
In relation to this, Jeonju City Upcycling Center Dasibom, which celebrates its 4th anniversary this year, is located in Seonosong Art Village, with an upcycling store on the first floor of the building and a laboratory and joint workroom for resident companies on the second floor. In addition, the 3rd and 4th floors of the building are operated as exhibition rooms and experiential education spaces, and facility tour services with commentary are also provided through reservations for group visits.
As a result, the Jeonju City Upcycling Center is attracting attention as an excellent example of operating an upcycle center in Korea, with a total of 30 people from 5 organizations, including Sejong City and Busan Metropolitan City, visiting this year for benchmarking to learn facility composition and operation know-how.
Lee Young-seop, head of Jeonju City’s Resource Circulation and Greenery Bureau, said, “The key to upcycling is to add design and value to discarded waste to regenerate it into new objects and use them usefully in everyday life.” He added, “I hope that citizens will join us in creating a sustainable circular economy society in Jeonju by practicing resource circulation through upcycling.”
Meanwhile, the Jeonju City Upcycling Center is currently being operated by People & Environment Co., Ltd., and through the recently held private consignment selection committee, it was decided to extend the consignment operation for two years from next year to 2027.
