Unexpected reason why cold beer tastes better has been revealed

In the laboratory, the researchers measured the “contact angle” of several solutions made up of different concentrations of ethanol, the most common form of alcohol, in water. This way they could learn how the molecules in the mixture interact with each other.

It has been found that at low alcohol concentrations, ethanol forms pyramid-shaped structures around water molecules.

But when the concentration of alcohol was increased, they noticed that the ethanol began to form like a chain. The researchers found that temperature also affected these formations.

It was found that in five percent ethanol solutions (the average beer has a similar alcohol concentration), the chain structures clearly increased when the solution was cooled from room temperature to 5 degrees Celsius.

This explains why professional tasters report that beer tastes stronger after it has been refrigerated, the researchers say.

Ethanol has a bitter, slightly sweet taste, so it enhances the overall taste of the beer.

The researchers said their findings could be used by the alcoholic beverage industry to achieve an ethanol-like taste but at the lowest possible alcohol concentration.

The findings are published in Matter magazine.

They achieve affordable and non-polluting green hydrogen. It brings us closer to the hydrogen car

The cars of the future could run on hydrogen, but there are multiple ways to obtain it This new way of obtaining hydrogen from waste is really interesting

The hydrogen car is one of the most coveted dreams today. It allows us to move efficiently and without generating particularly serious greenhouse emissions. For this reason, almost all automotive brands are working hard to achieve the first functional hydrogen engines. However, this raises new, equally important problems. There is no point in manufacturing hydrogen cars if obtaining it is very polluting, which is why there are many scientific teams trying to achieve green hydrogen that is much more sustainable and accessible to everyone. Now, one team seems to have done it quite successfully, which gives us remarkably about the hydrogen caror at least to an affordable and clean energy source for it.

A perfect advance for the future of the automotive industry

A scientific team from the University of Nottingham and other institutions has published an article in the Journals of Material Chemistry A explaining a method in which they can convert metal waste into a catalyst that produces hydrogen from waterThus, the dependence on fossil fuels and precious metals such as platinum that They are usually very expensive could be massively reduced.

In the clean room where the pair of satellites are located, the technicians work with great care. It is like an operating room, a place that must be spotless. In some warehouses in an industrial estate near Antwerp, the two Proba-3 satellites are examined point by point. point like a job of fine metalwork before its launch into space next September from India.

Proba-3 is one of the many programs of the European Space Agency (ESA) but it is one of the few led by Spain and Belgium. The main contractor is the Spanish engineering company Sener – founded in 1956 in the Basque Country, but with activity in Catalonia and Madrid – which heads a group of 29 companies from 17 countries that have been developing this project for more than ten years. It is now in the final phase before its launch and they have decided to invite the European media to visit the ships at the facilities of Redwire, a Belgian company that is in charge of avionics and operations. These days they are working on the last tests.

Specialists and scientists are detailing the characteristics of the satellites,

Elon Musk Encourages J.K. Rowling to Move on From Anti-Trans Stance J.K. Rowling Faces Criticism for Anti-Trans Views

Famed author J.K. Rowling has been at the center of controversy for her divisive views on transgender individuals for several years. However, her persistent ramblings on the topic have now caught the attention of unlikely critic Elon Musk, the outspoken billionaire.

Musk Echoes Rowling’s Views on Sex/Gender

In response to a lengthy post written by Rowling, which contained more than 700 words, Musk expressed his agreement with the main points of her argument. Rowling’s post served as a reminder of her reheated ideas on the topic, specifically her belief that transgender women should not be considered women. However, Musk, known for platforming right-wing figures and promoting controversial views, took a friendly approach in urging Rowling to pursue other subjects.

Musk’s Suggestion to Deviate to Different Areas

“Although I wholeheartedly agree with your perspective on sex and gender, may I suggest diversifying your content by also sharing interesting and positive stories on other subjects?” Elon Musk kindly suggested. It is worth noting that the billionaire’s history includes not only his anti-trans Twitter rampages but also the amplification of other hateful ideas,

Astronauts on the Moon Could Stay Fit by Running on Inside of Wall of Death, Italian Scientists Discover

Running Around the Wall of Death: A New Approach to Keeping Fit on the Moon

In a groundbreaking study conducted by Alberto Minetti, a professor of physiology at the University of Milan, a unique method for keeping astronauts fit in space has been proposed. Inspired by an iconic scene from the film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” Minetti and his team explored how running around the inside edge of a cylindrical structure, similar to a “Wall of Death” used by motorcycle stunt performers, could help combat the challenges posed by low gravity environments.

The moon presents an intriguing case for maintaining physical fitness due to its significantly reduced gravity. Conventional forms of exercise such as running vertical on its surface are impractical as astronauts can only achieve limited speeds before bouncing off the ground in large jumps. Therefore, Minetti suggests emulating artificial gravity to overcome this hurdle.

By running sideways along a circular path within their spacecraft or habitat, astronauts would generate centrifugal and centripetal forces that simulate higher gravity compared to walking upright on the moon’s surface. This innovative approach offers potential solutions for countering muscle atrophy and bone density loss experienced in extended periods spent in space.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang wakes up at 6 a.m. and works 14 hours a day

Mr. Jensen Huang’s 14-hour work day starts at 6 am. He often eats in the company kitchen to connect with employees and “manage the culture”.

What’s it like running a $2 trillion company? Just ask Jensen Huang. Last week, the founder and CEO of Nvidia shared that he usually wakes up at 6 a.m. and starts a new day by exercising before working 14 hours a day.

Bloomberg ranked him the 20th richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $73 billion, up $29 billion since the beginning of the year. However, being rich is also a burden. At the 2023 New York Times DealBook Summit, he said: “I don’t wake up proud and confident but with anxiety.”

That’s because Nvidia nearly went bankrupt in the late 1990s, a memory he says is hard to shake. However, the company is now worth more than $2 trillion, behind only Microsoft and Apple, driven by demand for chips needed for AI applications.
