Santa Catarina already has five confirmed deaths from dengue in 2024 (four in Joinville and one in Araquari, both in the Northern region of SC). There are now 8,710 probable cases of the disease. An increase of 611% compared to the same period last year, when the state had 1,225 probable cases of dengue. Fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes and red spots on the skin. These are the main symptoms of dengue. Furthermore, the State Department of Health warns that intense and continuous abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, drop in blood pressure and bleeding of mucous membranes are already warning signs of the disease, indicating the need to seek immediate health care.

The Westchester County Health Department confirmed that two individuals were diagnosed with toxoplasmosis – an infection caused by consuming undercooked meat contaminated with parasites – believed to be linked to venison served during the event.
