The United Nations Security Council has condemned Iranian attacks on Gulf states and other countries in the region. In New York today, 13 of the 15 members of the Council voted in favor of the text put forward by non-permanent member Bahrain.

Russia and China abstained. The resolution also relies on the support of numerous other states that are not currently members of the Security Council.

Calls for immediate cessation of attacks

Gulf states continue to face missile and drone attacks from Iran. The resolution called, among other things, for the immediate cessation of Iranian attacks on the Gulf states and other neighboring states of Iran. Iran’s use of proxy groups such as the Lebanese Hezbollah militia has also been criticized.

Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel again in response to the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Since then, the Israeli military has been attacking Lebanon on a larger scale.

The resolution is supported by a total of 135 UN states, said the UN ambassador from Bahrain. States outside the Security Council can join drafts – a step with a primarily symbolic effect.
