The fire is said to have broken out just after 2 p.m. local time (6 p.m. Belgian time) at a country stand close to the entrance. The smoke spread over the site, causing panic.
A Belga journalist who is also on site confirms that the site has been evacuated. Almost the entire COP site is located under a large tent.
The fire brigade quickly arrived on the scene. Brazilian Tourism Minister Celso Sabino said the fire was under control and no injuries were reported.
The fire caused limited damage. The site will not reopen until 8 p.m. local time (midnight in Belgium) at the earliest, the UN climate agency (UNFCCC) said.
