The armed forces of Ukraine have been massively attacking Moscow for two days now.

Over 40 drones approaching the capital were shot down last night, and 119 over the weekend, the capital’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, said.

It is noted that the persistent attack began on March 14. afternoon, and since then the mayor’s Telegram channel has been almost non-stop posting messages about drone “killing”. The last such message appeared on March 16. around 9 a.m. Moscow time.

According to S. Sobyanin, in just two days “air defense forces destroyed about 250 drones in the approaches to Moscow and on the second line towards the city”.

Russia’s defense ministry said on Monday it had intercepted 145 drones overnight, including 53 over the Moscow region.

Witnesses said that explosions were heard in the capital and its districts.

Rosaviatsia has introduced restrictions at Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, Zhukovsky and Vnukovo airports. Currently, only the latter works normally. Others receive and send flights “in coordination with the relevant authorities”. The measures are interpreted as “ensuring flight safety”.

According to the Telegram channel Shot, FP-1 drones developed by the Ukrainian company Fire Point are being flown to Moscow. Attacks are carried out in waves of 8-10 units.

According to the specified characteristics, according to The Moscow Times. each such device can carry 60 kg of explosives and cover a distance of 1,400 km.

It is noted that this is the record recorded over Moscow since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Before that, the biggest attack was considered to be in 2025. March 11: 91 drones approaching the capital were shot down, killing three people in the Moscow region.

“We had left Moscow alone for quite a long time”

Ukrainian war veteran, former company commander of the “Aidar” battalion, defense expert Yevhen Dykijus assessed the latest attacks of the Ukrainian forces against the Russian capital for the radio station “New Voice”.

According to him, Ukraine is currently building corridors to Moscow through the enemy’s anti-aircraft defense system.

“Now we see the beginning of the construction of these corridors and the systematic preparation for regular flights in the skies of Moscow,” he said.

The expert reminded that when Ukraine just started carrying out drone flights, it was demonstrated that Ukrainian drones could reach Moscow. In addition, it had a very strong psychological effect. He is convinced that the launch of drones into Moscow is significant because it gives the Russians an absolute shock.

J. Dykijus explained that after the first strikes, the Russian authorities took the situation seriously and created a powerful air defense system around Moscow. However, he pointed out that Russia’s air defense resources are quite limited, so regions other than Moscow, the front line and Crimea have become sparsely covered.

“In order to create this ring of Moscow, for the first time in history it was even necessary to remove air defense systems protecting nuclear facilities in the north of Russia,” he reminded.

“We had left Moscow alone for quite a long time. And it was completely justified. With a limited amount of means for a deep strike, there was no point in symbolically “preparing nightmares”, on the contrary, it was necessary to force the air defense to surround Moscow and “walk” in remote regions, where there are defense factories and oil refineries far from the capital,” said the veteran.

According to him, we are now watching the next phase.

“We have already started preparing so many deep strikes that it makes sense for us to return to Moscow not to symbolically show that we can fly there, but to start systematically dismantling the air defense ring around Moscow and pave the way for an impunity flight to the capital. So that a whole wave of drones can fly in and hit the targets. Now we are watching the beginning of this third stage,” noted J. Dykijus.
