A meaningful Russian assault struck Kyiv overnight, resulting in at least four fatalities, including two children. This occurred amidst ongoing diplomatic endeavors by Donald Trump aimed at resolving the conflict.

After three and a half years marked by the most intense European conflict since World War II, the Ukrainian capital was once again subjected to aerial bombardment.

Explosions were reported by witnesses, with observations of a downed missile, falling debris, and drone activity over the city as residents sought refuge in underground shelters and the metro system.

According to the military governance, the attack involved both drones and various types of missiles-ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic-impacting over 20 locations within the capital.

Several residential buildings sustained damage, including one that collapsed, trapping residents. A nursery school was also damaged, and numerous vehicles and a downtown shopping center were affected.

Interior Minister Igor Klymenko reported four deaths, including two children, and over 20 injuries, with rescue operations still in progress.

“This is all that there is to know about the terrorist state, Putin, and their ‘desire’ of peace”, stated Andriï Iermak, head of the presidential administration, via social media, directly criticizing russia and its president.

Air raid alerts were active throughout Ukrainian territory during the night.

The Russian military claimed to have intercepted 102 Ukrainian drones. Recent Ukrainian attacks targeting Russian refineries have led to increased gasoline prices.

Russian Advances and Diplomatic Efforts

In late July, Russian bombings resulted in over 30 deaths, including five children in Kyiv, marking one of the deadliest attacks since the large-scale russian invasion in 2022.

These events prompted Donald Trump to intensify pressure on Moscow to agree to a ceasefire,leading to a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska on august 15.

Following the summit and a subsequent visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Washington with European allies, the American leader expressed intentions to facilitate a meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents.

Though, progress towards such a summit has stalled, with both Moscow and Kyiv citing obstacles.

Ukraine seeks security guarantees from Western nations to deter future Russian aggression before any potential peace agreement is finalized.

The Kremlin expressed its opposition on Wednesday to the potential deployment of European troops to Ukraine as part of a peace agreement.

Mr. Zelensky stated he observed “very negative and arrogant signals from Moscow concerning negotiations” and called for increased pressure to compel Russia to take concrete steps.

He announced that members of his team would meet with representatives of Donald trump in New York on Friday.

Russia demands that Ukraine cede four partially occupied regions, in addition to Crimea, which was annexed in 2014, and renounce its aspirations to join the Atlantic Alliance as conditions for ending the conflict. Kyiv considers these terms unacceptable.

The Russian military, controlling approximately 20% of Ukraine in the east and south, has intensified its ground operations in recent months against Ukrainian forces that are fewer in number and less equipped.

For the first time on Tuesday, Ukraine acknowledged that Russian soldiers had entered its region of Dnipropetrovsk, where Moscow had claimed advances in July. This region is not among the five Ukrainian regions that Moscow claims to have annexed.
