UK Prime Minister: Will Remain in Office Until 2026

by Archynetys News Desk

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has dismissed speculation about possible challenges to his leadership and said he will remain as head of government in 2026.

“I was elected in 2024 with a five-year mandate to change the country and that’s what I intend to do,” he told the BBC.

The comments come after 2025, during which Starmer has struggled with slowing economic growth, low poll ratings and speculation that he could face a leadership challenge.

Starmer stressed that the upcoming regional and local elections in Scotland, Wales and England in May are not a “referendum” on his government, and that he intends to continue in his role to deliver the changes he was elected to deliver in 2024.

Starmer stressed that he would be judged for his achievements the next time an election took place.

In addition, the prime minister promised that in 2026 people will feel “positive changes” in their lives.

He also noted that the government will not stop fighting to improve the lives of British families, in particular by reducing living costs.

Starmer stressed that he does not intend to return the country to the “chaos” of previous governments. He also noted that no other government wants to repeat the situation where constant changes in leadership led to political instability.

“Under the previous government we saw constant changes of leadership and command, which led to complete chaos, and this is one of the reasons why the Tories were so effectively thrown out at the last election. Nobody wants to go back to this. It is not in our national interests,” he said.
