UK Immigration: Reform Party’s Residence Plan

by Archynetys News Desk

London, SEP (EFE) .- The Populisto right-wing Populist Party, which leads electoral surveys in the United Kingdom, promised on Monday to eliminate the permanent residence permit for immigrants if it comes to power in the next general elections, scheduled for 2029.

The training leader, Nigel Farage, explained in a press conference that they will abolish the known as ‘Indefinite Leave to Remain’.

Instead, he proposed that migrants must request new visas every five years, with higher demands on the domain of English and higher salary thresholds.

In addition, the party considers excluding immigrants from the social aid system, all of which argues that it would mean savings of at least 234,000 million pounds (about 270,000 million euros).

This calculation comes from the Center for Political Studies, a group of experts founded by which it was conservative British Prime Minister Margaret Tatcher (1979-1990), although Farage himself described him as “quite low” and accused the Labor Government of hiding data to know the real amount.

The measures announced today would not be applied to European citizens protected by the Brexit withdrawal Agreement of 2020, but those who have been outside.

In substitution of the ILR, reform UK raised to seven years the qualification period to obtain citizenship, as well as the implementation of a new visa for “cases of acute scarcity of qualified labor”, whose concession would be very restricted.

«The United Kingdom is on the edge of the fiscal disaster. The greatest catastrophe that conservatives have unleashed about Great Britain is yet to explode: Boris’s ‘wave’. The millions of unqualified immigrants and not belonging to the EU who have imported will cost taxpayers at least 234,000 million pounds, ”said Zia Yusuf, head of the UK reform policy, on the social network X.

The ‘Ola de Boris’ refers to the 3.8 million migrants who, according to the party, arrived in the United Kingdom during the mandate of the conservative prime minister Boris Johnson (2019-2022), when a global immigration system by points was introduced after the Brexit becomes effective.

According to Yusuf, “half of the immigrants of the ‘wave of Boris’ do not work and will never do it” and said that, between 2026 and 2030, at least 800,000 will have the right to request the ILR, “which will give them access to the welfare state for life.”

«That is what Prime Minister Nigel Farage will get: Boris’s wave will stop. He will put the British first. It will release all the potential of our great nation, ”he concluded.

Currently, Prime Minister’s Labor Executive Keir Starmer also reviews the requirements to grant an ILR and plans to raise to ten the years that an immigrant must remain in the United Kingdom before being able to access it.

In the last survey of the Democópico firm Yougov, published on September 15, Reforma UK is first in intention to vote in this country with 28 % support, compared to 21 % of the Labor and 17 % of the conservatives. EFE
