Pope Francis has appointed Father Simon Peter Engurait, originally from Uganda, as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux in Louisiana.

This past Thursday, pope Francis appointed Simon Peter Engurait as Bishop of Houma-Thibodaux, located in the US state of Louisiana. He had been serving as the interim administrator of the diocese for the past year. The 53-year-old was born in Ngora, Uganda, before relocating to the United States for his studies and eventually joining the clergy of his current diocese. He served as Vicar General starting in 2017.
