Paramount+ enters UK market and Prime Video extends UEFA Champions League rights across multiple European countries in new deals.

US media group Paramount has made a major move into the UK sports market after securing the broadcast rights to show UEFA Champions League matches for four years starting from the 2027/28 season.

As part of the new rights cycle, Prime Video will continue airing the top-pick Tuesday Champions League match in the UK from 2027 to 2031. This forms part of a wider four-year rights extension that sees Amazon retain top-pick matches across multiple markets. Under the new agreement, Prime Video will hold exclusive rights to the top Tuesday game in the UK and co-exclusive rights in Ireland, while in Germany and Italy the service will show the top Wednesday fixture exclusively.

The deal extends Prime Video’s presence in the competition through to the 2030/31 season, building on existing agreements first launched in Germany and Italy in 2021 and in the UK and Ireland in 2024.

Alex Green, MD of Prime Video Sport International, called the renewal a major milestone, highlighting the combination of marquee fixtures and Prime’s broad customer reach as driving record viewership. He also noted that the long-term agreement gives Prime Video scope to continue developing new features for fans, such as the recently introduced Prime Vision.
