Ubisoft Criticism: Ex-Employee Reveals Public Sentiment | Gamereactor

Many of us remember what Ubisoft used to be. This passionate and creative team created one of the most beloved games in the industry, seemingly turning everything into gold in the first decade of the 21st century.

From Assassin’s Creed to Far Cry, Ghost Recon: Advanced, Metal Gear Solid, Rayman and Prince of Persia, just to name a few. But that image has crumbled in recent years – and the criticism has been harsh, not only from players and the media, but also from within.

In an interview, a former Ubisoft employee who chose to remain anonymous spoke about how the studio had lost direction and trust, and felt that the dislike many players felt towards them was reflected internally. Many people who work there actually hate their work environment and culture.

He said:

“It’s hard to imagine Ubisoft selling well again. It’s difficult, but not impossible. They are now hated by a large portion of the public, including many of their own developers, for a decade of disappointing releases.”

According to the source, the issues are primarily related to leadership and recurring production issues, with the company repeatedly failing to identify and break recurring destructive patterns. In many cases, the consequences fall on the developers, while responsibility is more diffused higher up in the organization.

However, he believes that even though it would be difficult for Ubisoft to turn things around today, especially under current management, a comeback is possible. After all, the company still has many excellent brands and rich talents.

What do you think Ubisoft needs to do to get the problem under control?
