UAE & Nigeria: Tourism Cooperation Talks

During a bilateral meeting held in Dubai, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism of the Emirates, and Hannatu Musa Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy of Nigeria, discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries.

Areas of cooperation between the two countries include: Tourism, creative and cultural industries, and exchanging the latest experiences and best practices that support tourism and creative growth during the next stage.

Abdullah bin Touq stressed that the UAE is paying increasing attention to strengthening its economic and investment relations with the countries of the African continent, by encouraging Emirati companies to expand the scope of their business and investments in various African markets.

He added that this comes from the UAE’s keenness to support sustainable development paths on the continent, and to contribute to building effective economic partnerships that contribute to driving growth and enhancing common prosperity between the two sides.

Bin Touq pointed out that Nigeria represents a promising market for investment in the tourism, hotel and tourism infrastructure sectors, driven by the increasing demand for African destinations and the growing global interest in sustainable tourism, which makes it an important partner for the UAE in promoting tourism growth on the continent. It is also one of the most prominent tourist destinations in Africa with its diverse and rich tourism potential.

During the meeting, Bin Touq reviewed the “National Tourism Strategy 2031” in the UAE, and its prominent role in supporting the sustainability and competitiveness of the tourism sector in the country by the next decade, as it set ambitious national goals, which included raising the UAE’s position to become the first in the world as the best tourist identity, increasing the tourism sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product of the national economy to 450 billion dirhams, attracting tourism investments worth 100 billion dirhams in the country’s markets, and attracting 40 million guests. The two sides also discussed mechanisms to support communication between the Emirati and Nigerian business communities to discover tourism investment opportunities available in the markets of the two countries, expand the scope of the economic partnership, encourage joint investments that support the development of tourism infrastructure, and enhance mutual tourism movement, in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable growth for this sector.

They touched on the importance of enhancing opportunities for cooperation in the fields and activities of the creative economy, and its role in supporting the tourism sector and providing distinguished experiences for visitors and tourists, through developing cultural and artistic industries, and enhancing the presence of local arts and traditional crafts in the tourism scene, in a way that supports the enrichment of the promotion of cultural identity, and provides new opportunities for sustainable economic growth in both countries.
