Tyrol Floods: Evacuations in Gschnitz & Neustift

Gschnitz, Neustift-due to violent storms, was triggered in Gschnitz at-Alert and civil protection alarm on Monday evening. Several massive murs have left. According to the alarm report, there was a high risk of muries, slope slips and floods.

The Gschnitz fire brigade shared a recording from the helicopter on Facebook, which shows the extent of the meat in the evening in the 466 inhabitant village:

After the violent storms with hailfalls, huge murs went to the village in Gschnitz. The Gschnitzbach stepped over the bank in places. Fire brigade, emergency services and police with the helicopter “Libelle” were deployed. According to initial information, there was no buried.

The area of ​​the parish church of Maria Snow was particularly affected in Gschnitz. According to the police, Gschnitztalstrasse was also relocated and a bicycle bridge was destroyed. From the Mühlendorf area, people were evacuated with the helicopter. There, flooding threatened to through the Sandersbach and Muren in this area.

The population in the municipality of Gschnitz was called to remain in the houses and to go to higher floors. The Innsbruck-Land district operations management was raised in the state warning and location center.

Several people were evacuated with the police helicopter.

Disruption also in the Stubai Valley

Even in the Stubai Valley there were mura leaves after severe storms. The Neustifter districts of Volderau and Gasteig were particularly affected. The rear valley from the Gasteig district was cut off, the Ranalter Straße was closed. In addition, the Volderau campsite was evacuated as a precaution and the residents in the district were instructed to go to the first floor.

In the evening, the population was asked to stay in the houses, not to enter underground garages and cellars and to stay away from the dams of the rivers. “We observe the situation carefully and are constantly in contact with the emergency organizations,” emphasizes Elmar Rizzoli, head of the country’s Center for Crisis and Disaster Management.
