He was one of the young actors in the Nickelodeon series “Ned or How to Survive College” in the early 2000s. But at 36, Tylor Chase found himself on the street, prey to his addictions and mental disorders. He was finally found and taken into care.
It took three months to get Tylor Chase off the streets. Since the broadcast of images on social networks showing the former child star in a precarious situation in the streets of Riverside, near Los Angeles, fans, neighbors and former comrades of the Nickelodeon teen channel have mobilized to help him. The man who played schoolboy Martin Qwerly in the series “Ned or How to Survive Studies”, broadcast in the early 2000s, is preparing to enter a detoxification center.
As detailed by the American site “TMZ”, American actor Shaun Weiss, another child star of the Disney film “The Little Champions”, who himself struggled with drug addiction, mobilized to locate Tylor Chase a few days ago. Research carried out in collaboration with his family, notably his father Joseph Mendez Jr.. It was ultimately a certain Jacob Harris, owner of a hair salon in Riverside, who found the 36-year-old homeless actor on December 25 and contacted an emergency reception center.
First hospitalized and placed under observation for 72 hours, Tylor Chase will be admitted to detoxification. “I contacted friends and we found a bed for him in a rehab center, as well as a place where he can undergo long-term treatment,” reassured Shaun Weiss on his social networks.
The vain intervention of “Cookie”, Daniel Curtis Lee
Shortly before this support, Daniel Curtis Lee, former comrade of Tylor Chase in the series “Ned or How to survive studies” (who played the character of “Cookie”), had already tried to help him. After taking him out for pizza, he booked him a hotel room so he could spend Christmas in a shelter. A few hours later, the hotel management called him to inform him that Tylor Chase had damaged the room before leaving the premises.
According to “TMZ” again, the Californian police explained that Tylor Chase had repeatedly refused their help, whether it was a roof over their head or support to help him overcome his addictions and mental disorders. The public became aware of the actor’s situation last September, when a Californian woman relayed videos of him trying to help him. An online prize pool was launched on GoFundMeand raised almost 1000 euros, but Tylor Chase’s mother asked that the sum not be given to her son, who is not able to manage his money. The money was therefore used to buy him clothes and food.
Speaking to the “Daily Mail”, the father of the former child star confided that he suffered from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. “For more than ten years, the family has been looking for solutions to treat him, particularly for his substance abuse problems and his mental health,” explained the real estate agent, who lives in Georgia. “He must be willing to accept help. » After an attempt at treatment in 2021, Tylor Chase returned to California to be closer to his mother, but he slipped back into drug addiction.
