Liquidation of the RTV license fee – draft act

“It is proposed to repeal the Act on License Fees and, consequently, abolition of the obligation to pay subscription fees by households and other entities obliged to pay them” – results from the draft act amending the Broadcasting Act and certain other acts. As we read, the RTV license fee would be replaced with funds from the state budget.

The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage proposed to include it in the Broadcasting Act a fixed amount, but not less than PLN 2.5 billion per year. “Securing the minimum amount that can be allocated to public media in a given year in this way will avoid discussions on its amount during the budget debate, as a result of which it could be reduced,” it was emphasized. The proposed amount is similar to the funds that were transferred to public media in recent years as part of license fees and compensation.

The RTV license fee is currently: PLN 8.70 per month for using a radio receiver and PLN 27.30 per month for using a television set or radio and television set.
