Can Yaman is increasingly convincingly asserting himself as the most successful Turkish actor, far beyond the borders of his homeland. In recent years, he has lived and worked in Italy, where he enjoys increasing fame.
Gian was recently awarded the prestigious Filming Italy Venice Award at the 82nd Venice Film Festival.
And now he has become a real sensation, taking on the role of the character Sandokan – the pirate of the late 19th century, invented by the Italian writer Emilio Salgari.
The series based on the novel is already a fact and was even officially presented a few days ago at the Rome Film Festival.
The romantic saga of adventure and freedom is actually not just a remake of the six-episode miniseries from 1976. It is a completely new reading of the Sandokan story, more complex, more human, more modern – in the words of its creators.
“We wanted to modernize this pirate story in an Italian style,” says director Ian Maria Michelini. “The characters are written with more depth: Sandokan starts out as a Robin Hood of the seas, but learns that true freedom is what makes you give of yourself to others.”
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Sandokan became the most significant role for the Turkish actor. At least until now. It gave him world fame and established him as an international star.
Yaman says that he prepared for the role for five years, studying every detail: “A role like this rarely comes in an actor’s life. At first I concentrated on the physical part, but I found that the emotional part was even more intense. Sandokan is a suffering, ascetic, but also ironic person – I learned from him that even in pain you have to be able to smile.”
Although it seems easy on the surface, Zhang actually has to walk a difficult path to fame. It took him a long time to establish himself in the world cinema circles. And it is often the object of attacks and negativity. Not only his professional life, but also his personal life has been constantly criticized – including his personal relationships and alcohol abuse.
And as if despite the negativity, the Turkish actor is happy in his latest relationship. For several months now, he has been officially dating Sara Bloom, a famous producer and DJ in Italy. And he no longer hides his relationship with her, he even often shares joint photos on social networks, writes Ladyzone.
