The President of the United States, Donald Trump, launched his Peace Board on Thursday, January 22, 2026 in Davos (Switzerland). At the ceremony he was surrounded by around twenty heads of State and Government, including those of Argentina, Paraguay and Hungary.
“These here are leaders who are in favor of action,” because Trump is “a president of action,” said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
One billion dollars to be a member
After a speech in which he reviewed the situation in Gaza, Iran, Ukraine and Venezuela, among other crises, the Republican president signed the document that creates this body.
To access a permanent position on the Peace Board, one billion dollars will have to be paid in cash. Trump has invited other leaders, such as Russia’s Vladimir Putin, Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky, Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu and Pope Leo XIV.
Rivalry with the UN
According to Trump, the Board will collaborate with the United Nations. The new body seeks to shore up its image as a peacemaker, a day after withdrawing its threats against Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory that it considers key to the security of the United States.
Although the body was initially created to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza after the war between Hamas and Israel, its statutes do not limit its role to the Palestinian territory and have raised concerns that Trump wants it to rival the UN.
