WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are likely to meet in October in South Korea during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC). CNN reported on Saturday, quoting several sources. This meeting took place in the midst of trade tensions between the two countries.

According to three Trump government officials who were not named, the President and his main advisors were “secretly prepared” to attend the APEC meeting and hold talks with the Ministers of the Trade Countries. The APEC Summit is scheduled for the end of October to early November in Gyeongju, South Korea.

The officials added that “There has been a serious discussion about bilateral meetings” between Trump and XI on the sidelines of the forum, but “there is no exact plan.”

Trade tensions between the US and China are increasing. In early 2025, Trump imposed a massive tariff of up to 145% for Chinese goods, which triggered a reply rate of 125% from Beijing. However, the two countries agreed in May for a temporary tariff ceasefire, which had been extended until mid -November.
