While Trump frequently voiced his desire for a peaceful resolution and even threatened Russia with sanctions, these pronouncements were seemingly met with defiance from Vladimir Putin, who continued to escalate military operations.

This raises a critical question: did Putin perceive Trump’s threats as genuine, or did he recognize them as mere rhetoric, devoid of real consequences? Some analysts suggest that Putin exploited Trump’s desire for a positive relationship, using it as leverage to avoid substantive concessions.

Putin plays with Trump. Does the US president understand this now? Will Trump finally take measures? Putin learned from experience not to expect real measures from the US President, but only words. and these words look more powerless and weak.

The argument is that a combination of economic pressure and military support could have presented Putin with a stark choice: de-escalate the conflict and engage in genuine negotiations,or face increasing military,economic,and political costs.

Such actions will encounter Putin with reality: if he continues the war and will not seriously negotiate, military, economic and political expenses for Russia will increase. Trump can really do manny things to make Russians go more seriously to the cessation of the war. If he wants to attract Putin’s attention,he must begin to do this.

Such as, Russia insisted on Ukraine abandoning its aspirations to join NATO and adopting a neutral status with a substantially reduced military. These conditions were widely seen as an attempt to undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.

More recently, Trump has threatened Russia with sanctions if it fails to engage in meaningful peace talks. However, the effectiveness of these threats remains questionable, given the perceived lack of follow-through during his previous administration.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine underscores the importance of translating diplomatic rhetoric into concrete action. While words can be a powerful tool, they must be backed by credible threats and a willingness to impose real costs on those who defy international norms.
