US President Donald Trump said Monday in Doral (Florida) that the US military will take control of the Strait of Hormuz “when the time is right”.

“The American military will have to regain control of the strait when the time is right,” declared President Trump during a press conference, insisting on the need to “liberate” this strategic passage for world trade and oil, where traffic has virtually stopped since the start of the American military operation against Iran.

President Trump also threatened to hit Iran “much harder” if the authorities in Tehran decided to block the flow of oil to the region.

“I will not let a terrorist regime hold the world hostage and try to stop the world’s oil supply. And if Iran does something in this direction, they will be hit much, much harder,” insisted the head of the American executive.

“If they want to play this game (…) they better not play this game,” continued Donald Trump.

Referring to the latest developments in the Israeli-American offensive against Iran, the American president a assured that the war would “end soon”, believing that the military operation is “well ahead of schedule”.

“This will end soon, and if it starts again, they will be hit even harder,” he threatened.

Tehran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has caused an unprecedented freeze in global maritime trade, which mainly affects petroleum products, but threatens many other industrial sectors..

This route, which allows exports of oil and gas products from Gulf countries, is a key crossing point for the black gold trade. A quarter of the world’s oil and a fifth of liquefied natural gas pass through it.
