Kaja Kallas: Russia provides information to Iran to “kill Americans”
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, asked the United States on Thursday to put pressure on Russia, not only to negotiate a just end to the war in Ukraine, but also because Moscow is helping Tehran. “We note that Russia is helping Iran at the intelligence level to attack Americans, to kill Americans, and Russia also provides drones to Iran so that [este país] attack on neighboring countries, as well as US military bases” in the area, Kallas told the press.
“If the United States wants the war in the Middle East to end (…), it must also pressure Russia, so that it does not help [a Irán] in that sense,” said the head of European diplomacy in statements to the press from the Vaux de Cernay Abbey, in the town of Cernay la Ville (about fifty kilometers from Paris), where the G7 foreign ministers are meeting. The vice president of the European Commission also stressed, in reference to the war in the Middle East: “We need to get out of this war, not escalate it further.”
Both conflicts are “very interconnected”
For Kallas, this shows that the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East are “very interconnected” by Russia’s role. And he regretted that the rise in oil prices is once again giving Moscow the opportunity to continue financing the invasion of Ukraine, so we must not forget that country and demand sincere negotiation.
Especially because Russia claims in exchange for peace territories that “never were theirs” and that “they have not managed to conquer militarily in twelve years.” You cannot fall into that trap, he argued, and called for clear concessions from the Russian side. Kallas hoped that a “unified” message would emerge from the meeting in Cernay la Ville in favor of a de-escalation, because all countries in the world are affected and “there can only be a diplomatic solution.” (efe, afp)
