Trump & National Guard: LA Court Order – News in Brief

Trump sent National Guard troops to Los Angeles in June.

President of the United States Donald Trump‘s administration must end the use of the National Guard in Los Angeles and return control of the troops to the state, a federal judge ordered Wednesday.

A judge granted a temporary restraining order at the request of California state officials. The decision will take effect on Monday.

From the beginning, the state of California has opposed Trump’s extraordinary decision in June to send National Guard troops to Los Angeles without the governor’s permission.

Trump justified his decision by curbing the protests that broke out in the city. The protests started when immigration police agents had searched for people staying in the city illegally in raids.

The Trump administration called up more than 4,000 National Guard soldiers from California. The number had dropped to a few hundred by the end of October. At that time, there were only about a hundred soldiers left in the Los Angeles area.

However, the Trump administration has wanted to continue the use of troops until February.

Los Angeles was the first city where the Trump administration sent National Guard troops. After that, the administration sent or tried to send National Guard soldiers to several other Democratic-controlled cities.
